Success in Queensland Solo and Ensemble Competition!

Success in Queensland Solo and Ensemble Competition!

Our very own Gen Smith has been crowned the Queensland State Champion of Champions after the recent Queensland Solo and Ensemble Competiiton run by the Queensland Band Association. Gen took the title after winning the Open Flugel section and then being selected by the adjudicators Howard Taylor and Peter Younghusband as the best performer in the Champion of Champions event. Her performance of Pandora was a very fine one indeed, displaying fantastic technique, musical insight and a glorious tone. Only recently moving to the flugel chair from the solo cornet lineup, this was her first performance on flugel, and a very successful one!

Gen took the Championship title over eight other finalists, including our soprano cornet Jaime Brown, who had previously won the Open Soprano section. Jaime played a lovely performance of the test piece The Carousel, with her trademark clear beautiful sound and very lyrical playing. It was a pleasure to hear both play on the day!

Congratulations also to Lindon Weise, who placed second to Jaime in the Open Soprano section.
