Brisbane Excelsior dominate at Queensland State Band Championships!

Brisbane Excelsior Band competed in the Queensland State Band Championships in Maryborough over the Queens Birthday Weekend. Led by Howard Taylor, Excelsior won each individual stage event and the overall championship with an 18 point lead over second place. This is a remarkable result for the band, and evidence of their continued dominance over the Queensland brass band scene.

Excelsior's younger sibling, Windsor Brass, are also continuing to establish themselves as an up-and-coming brass band, earning an impressive second place overall in the B-grade category.

Congratulations must also go out to individual Excelsior players who performed in the open solo competitions at the championships. Genevieve Smith and Tony Lashmar took out first and second place respectively in the open Bb cornet division, while Ross Moloney won open baritone, Lisa Hocking won open euphonium, Julie Woods won the open Eb bass, and Dean Morley won open Bb bass solo performances. Louisa Smith also earned second place in the open flugel horn, and Cindy Shanahan came third in the open tenor horn.
